5th Grade Immigration Graph Project

For this project you will choose a time period showing immigration statistics.  Each time period offers information on why people were immigrating from different countries around the world to the U.S.A.  Take a few minutes to decide which time period you will research.

www.ellisisland.org

First:

On the paper provided, write down the time period you chose and the countries and number of immigrants that came into the U.S.A.

Second:

Write down notes that you can use to write a paragraph about why people from these countries were immigrating to our country during that time.  Your paragraph will be 6 sentences and will include a topic and concluding sentence.

Third:

Now we will login in to the website with Mrs. Leach's user ID and password to find out if any of our ancestors immigrated through Ellis Island. If you found an ancestor that came through Ellis Island, write down their name, what year they arrived, how old they were, and where they were from.

Once our information is collected we will:

  1. Begin our document in MS Word
  2. Add your name and a title to your document.
  3. Then we will create our graph in Excel and paste it into our document.
  4. Finally, we will write our paragraph describing why people were immigrating at this time.
  5. If you have found an ancestor who immigrated through Ellis Island, you will then add that information underneath your first paragraph. You will write a new paragraph to include the information you recorded.
