Earth Science Careers Project

For this fun project you will be making a Help Wanted poster for a career field in earth science.  Your teacher will give you a few minutes to look at the careers available below and then selections will be made.  No more than 2 people in each computer group may choose the same career.

Before you may begin on the computer, you will need to sketch out a rough draft of what your poster is going to look like.  Make sure you have included the items on the list below on your rough draft.  If your rough draft isn't finished on the day assigned, it will have to be completed as homework to be ready for the next computer class.

 Your poster should include:

• Title of field chosen
• Inquiry for help
• Job description (at least 5 sentences)
• Appropriate graphic(s)
• Page border

Getting started on the computer:

Your poster will be made in Publisher, using a poster page setup using 6 pages. Don’t forget to adjust the dimensions of the poster to 18 inches by 18 inches.   You can find this in File>Page Setup.  The tricky part is putting your poster together! We will use glue sticks or tape and scissors to assemble them.  Be sure to bring your supplies from your class when you think you might be ready to assemble your poster.

When you open Publisher, click Blank Publications on the top of the catalog window.  Scroll down and click on Poster.  Then click Create.

• http://www.factmonster.com/  Most career fields will have a dictionary definition and an encyclopedia entry; some may only have a definition, which means you will have to be more creative.
