Coffin of Lady Mesehti
This was
a large coffin from Ancient Egypt. It was 179 cm long and was used in the
afterlife. This coffin was made in the Middle Kingdom
- 11th-12th Dynasties (2066-1781 BC) and was made of wood and paint. This
coffin came from the site of Asyut in Egypt. The eyes on the east side of the
coffin were meant to face the rising sun each day and the meat, bread, and beer
rest on tables for the afterlife access. The west side of this coffin is
currently missing, but the Brooklyn Museum might contain it. This was a very
interesting coffin and it has many beautiful designs.
