February 3, 2012 Dear Parents, Many thanks for the lovely cards, gifts and
flowers that we received on “Teacher Appreciation Day” – we are truly
grateful. The children did an outstanding job of presenting their poems at
the Poetry Sharing and enjoyed spending some time with their “Special Person” on
Wednesday. We all had fun at Badger Park and enjoyed participating in the
activities. First graders learned about money counting and monetary
equivalents, they used music and manipulatives to develop these skills. The
students also practiced inflectional endings – ing, es, s, ed etc. Tardiness:
We have noticed an increase in tardiness lately. Please keep in mind that school
rules dictate that 3 tardies in one month leads to a detention after school.
First grade enjoyed learning about groundhog day facts. The children
enjoyed bagels, cream cheese and jam with orange juice on Student Appreciation
Day. President project: Due: February 15th Cut-out: Please dress the
president in clothing from his time in office – be creative and have
fun! Global Service Project – Thank you to Ashley’s family for donating a
large coin jar to hold our pennies and thanks to all who sent in pennies this
week. Coming Up: 1. Celebration of the 100th day of school – 1st and 4th grades will join in this celebration 2. Free Dress – Monday, February 6th as a reward from the student Council for Spirit Week participation 3. President project – see attached papers and cut-out figure 4. Adopt a polar bear cub 5.
