Maeve O’Sullivan is our first grade teacher. Mrs. O’Sullivan grew up in Northern Ireland. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Queens University in Belfast. She holds a New York State Teaching Certificate, a California Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, as well as a Lifetime Religious Education Certificate. She belongs to several professional organizations including UNA, UNICEF, United Nations Association of Sonoma County, Yeats Poetry Association, and the Historical Society of Sonoma County. Mrs. O’Sullivan has taken several professional development courses including Differentiated Learning, Science in the Classroom, and Recognizing Student Learning Difficulties. Mrs. O’Sullivan participated in a Fulbright Association sabbatical in Amman, Jordan doing research on Middle Eastern countries. She also taught Shakespeare to students at the University of Jordan in Amman. She has also studied both French and Arabic languages. Mrs. O’Sullivan’s out of school interests include hiking, reading, gardening, baking, traveling, and discovering other cultures. Her favorite things to do are to spend summers in Ireland and London, as they are used as a base from which to explore other countries in the world. Her favorite places traveled to are Istanbul, Beirut, Cairo, Hong Kong, India, Southern Spain, Vienna, the Balkans, Scandinavia, Llubljana, and the Baltic States. She resides in Healdsburg with her husband. Mrs. O’Sullivan strongly believes in experiential learning and encouraging every student to embrace the lessons that travel brings. She says, “Our global understanding of one another can truly be enhanced by learning about and meeting people from different cultures.” |
